After lunch, most of the students have gone to the playground for amusement. Only Jacky was sitting alone in the classroom. It was raining outside and I could feel he was unhappy and gloomy. He was sitting there with his head low and thinking something.
I gently walked over and asked, "Jacky, are you ok? Do you feel uncomfortable?" Jacky lifted his head with tears in his eyes. He moved one's lips and stammered: "This morning I told Grandpa that this afternoon I will have physical education lesson. I should wear sports shoes. I have one pair which was bought last year but it is too small to wear. My Grandpa said that he promised he would buy a new pair of nike shoes for me and sent to me this afternoon. ... But ... class is beginning soon but Grandpa still hasn’t come. I am afraid something bad may happen to him. He never let me down before, but this time ... I am really worried about him. "When he was saying, he softly sobbed again.
After I knew what happened to him,I began to comfort him, "He will be fine. Maybe he has something else to do so he will come here late. I will explain this to your PE teacher. Don’t worry. Please feel at ease when you have the PE lesson."
Jacky was born in a complex and poor family. His father passed away several years ago and later his mother left home. Jacky lived with his grandpa and Grandma since he was only a little child. His grandma was weak and couldn’t do hard work. So the Grandpa supported the whole family by pulling the tricycle. Little Jacky had tasted the hardship of life since he was a child. He was very sensible and intelligent. He never compared what he ate and wore with his classmates. And he never asked for the support or relief with the excuse of his poor family. Despite what Jacky wore and his study stationary were the simplest and commonest in the whole class, he worked so hard that he always was the top student in academic performance. By this way, he won the admiration of classmates and the love of teachers.
The Grandpa promised Jacky that he would bought a pair of nike shoes for him such as Nike Rift because he noticed that many of Jacky’s classmates worn this brand. He never bought something good quality for Jacky and he was always felt sorry for Jacky. This time, when Jacky asked for a new pair of sports shoes which mean just common shoes, but Grandpa wanted to buy a pair of Nike Basketball for him.
Now he was so worried about the safety of his Grandpa that he couldn’t help crying out. When I was looking at Jacky’s face with tears, I felt moved in the heart by Jacky’s kindness and sensibility. I tried my best to comfort him then he was not crying any more but sitting there quietly.
When the first class in the afternoon was going to start, Jacky’s Grandpa rushed to the classroom out of breath. He was smiling when he wiped his sweat with his towel. He said to me with regret,” I am sorry for the delay. Mr. White. I know my child would have P.E. lesson today and he needs to wear sports shoes. Hope I didn’t come too late to delay his lesson.” He said to me," He gave me a shoes box when he was speaking. I answered,” No, you are not late. The lesson hasn’t started yet. Thank your for your timely coming." Jacky’s Grandpa felt a little embarrassed. "I supposed to send here in the noon. When I went to the nike shoes shop and saw there are so many models such as Nike Air Max 88, Nike Air Max 95 , Nike Air Max LTD, Nike Air Force 1, NIKE Blazer shoes and so on. The cheapest one is about $100.To be honest, I had only $70 in my pocket. However, I could not let Jacky down because I have promised him I will buy him a pair of Nike shoes. Anyway, I will not delay his class. In order to collect enough money, I didn’t have time to have breakfast. I had to do business as much as possible. I have never undercut the business with others before. Today is the first time and I almost argued with others for this matter. Fortunately I came here on time with he wants."
I stood there in amazement for a moment and did not know what else I could say. The moment I lowed my head but found the worn and patched cloth shoes on his feet. It was obvious that the he had worn the shoes for many years because the color had faded. And his trousers were all wet. At that moment, I felt eyes wet. When I turned back only found all the classroom was so quite. All the students sat tightly. Jacky bent over on the desk with his shoulders shaking slightly. Most of the students were moved by this conversation.
For the whole afternoon of that day, students kept quite and obey the classroom discipline very well.
